Replacing that timing belt? Chances are a curse word or two has crossed your lips when it came time to remove the factory crankshaft pulley. Unlike other makes, honda crank pulleys are fastened with a single bolt-and a large one at that. Call it cautiousness, call it over-engineering or call it just plain smart but honda calls for roughly lbft worth of bone-crushing torque when it comes to tightening these buggers down. Add to that several thousands miles worth of engine operation and years of temperature variances and you just might have the makings for one stubborn bolt.
But honda is one step ahead of you and offers the solution to all your problems, or at least your crank pulley related ones. No air compressor required. The problem isn't your wimpy little ratchet but rather that trying to loosen the pulley bolt with your wimpy little ratchet doesn't do much more than spin the crank.
Don't feel bad though, you'll get the same results with your friend's big, whopping ratchet. A number of methods have been concocted over the years to stop crank spin, none of which work all that great, like chain wrenches that usually end up marring the pulley to lodging scary objects in between the flywheel and bell housing.

I have tried the cheater pipe and breaker bar method with a supported extension bar and used the special crankshaft pulley holding tool. A ft lb air impact didn't work either. Any one here run into one like this? If you put lbs to it and it didn't break loose then its time to hit with a torch and heat that bitch up. Can I cut new key ways and drill the pulley and crankshaft and insert hardened steel dowels between the two around the primary bolt? Or is it possible to weld a bead on the crank and pulley without burning the seal? Help me please.
So far I replaced the key and used alot of jb weld and locktight. Do you. Ever hear of a product called "Belzona"? It's used in the paper mills to repair shafts that got chewed up where bearings ride.
Applies like epoxy but gets as hard as metal and can be machined on a lathe the same way. I used it many years ago to fix the rounded-off square on the end of a speedometer cable. It's still working fine. This stuff can be molded with a mold release agent, and the parts can be used to form the mold. You can weld new metal onto the end of the crank too, but then how are you going to machine it in the car?
The crank is cast iron, so you're going to have to preheat it a real long time and that will take out the seal. Was this answer. Under such circumstances, on car repair is not going to work. The recommendation by caradiodoc might work. You mentioned a lot of weld etc and it faisl.
Primary reason is because the repair is not perfect. The crankshaft runs under load of the various drive belts and your crankshaft has been worn out of round. The pulley has to turn perfectly round and your repairs most probably has the pulley turning eccentrically. This would result in a heavy load on the crank pulley bolt etc and they would give way in no time.
The other thing you need to replace would be the timing belt crank sprocket. The impac of the pulley would most probably have damaged it resulting in it not being level and when the pulleys is tightened, it is not at 90 degrees with the crankshaft.

The teeth on the pulley and key-way in the crank completely stripped. It is not repairable and i had to buy a new crank. Today after looking all over and calling many places trying to get a remanufactured crank online and at local parts stores, i found that they were all out of stock, and so i went to Craigslist and found one for sale.
I went 3 hrs out to buy this crank and pulley today. It was in very good shape both the crank and pulley. However, there are differences between that and the original.
The new crank has a smaller snout where the pulley goes on to. Not too much wiggle, but compared to the original crank i had to use a pulley to get it off. So, i was aware that 2 sizes were offered when buying a new or remanufactered crank, both cranks have the same rod diameter and main diameter, but the snout size is different.
